Visibility Condition with Return Function

I was wondering how to use the “Return Function” option within the visibility conditions.

My plan is to check if the value of an ACF date field is in the past so I can display a notice that this event already happened.

Do I need to use a PHP-function inside a code block and then reference it in the “Return Function” field?
