Larger than necessary image used for mobile when srcset available

Description:

When viewing site in Mobile (both in Chrome inspector + Google Pagespeed Insights), a larger 1024 w intrinsic image is being selected/served while srcset is enabled. I would have expected it to choose the 768 w or 300 w variants instead.

Here’s an example post where both the feature + post content image have intrinsic size of 1024 w on mobile:
