Enable displaying descriptions for top-level Nav Menu items

After many months of using the new Nav block, it fulfils almost all of our needs with only a few missing features. The display of descriptions in the dropdowns is excellent and we have control over the styling, so when using either a manually constructed Nav menu with dropdowns or a multi-level menu loaded from the WordPress Appearance > Menus area, this works perfectly. We currently can’t display descriptions in a nested vertically displayed Nav block for the top level items.

It will be very useful to enable this to support use cases like the one we currently have.

This would obviously have to be a toggle as the default in most menus (especially horizontal ones) is to not display them.
